Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is the latest technology used to take dental x-rays. This technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) that captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged helping the dentist and dental hygienist detect problems easier. Digital x-rays reduce radiation 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays.
Dental x-rays are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information not visible during a regular dental exam. Dentists and dental hygienists use this information to safely and accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities and complete an accurate treatment plan. Without x-rays, problem areas may go undetected.
The intraoral camera is an amazing diagnostic tool for viewing different angles in the mouth that we would not have been able to just a few years ago. The camera gives us the ability to view the entire mouth on a monitor so that we can get a closer look at any potential issues or problems that may arise. In addition, the patient will have the ability to see for themselves first- hand the same images we are seeing. These digital images are also excellent for gaining procedure acceptance from insurance companies
Spectra Caries Detection Aid is a new tool in our office that we are excited to offer our patients. This is a non invasive aid that we can use to help in detecting and diagnosing tooth decay. The Spectra uses Doppler radar-like images that are color and number coded to help determine the extent of the decay. Using this device will allow us to help show you early intervention and avoid future treatment that may be more painful, expensive and more invasive.
Velscope is the most powerful tool for assisting in the discovery of oral abnormalities. The Velscope's distinctive blue-spectrum light causes the soft tissues of the mouth to naturally fluoresce in distinctive patterns, patterns that are visibly disrupted by trauma or disease.
Using the Velscope, a wide variety of oral abnormalities can be discovered often before they're visible to the unassisted eye. Discovering these abnormalities on the soft tissue are important in the fight against oral cancer. Because the Velscope assists in early detection, cancer can be caught early on before it spreads, potentially saving lives through less invasive, more effective treatment.
At our office we check your mouth with the Velscope once a year to make sure your oral tissue is healthy.
Digital Panoramic is a digital x-ray scan of the head, neck and mouth. It allows us to see anatomy like sinus, the temporomandibular joint, and the dental and skeletal relationships in the head. This is a very helpful x-ray scan for orthodontics, trauma from an accident, patients who are thinking of implants to replace lost teeth, or patients who have dentures by allowing us to see how much bone support the patient has.
